Charlotte SPJ colleagues:
I hope your holiday season was enjoyable and that your new year is off to a good start. And I hope you’ll make the Charlotte chapter of Society of Professional Journalists a part of your 2016. We have two interesting and informative programs to get us started.
Please mark your calendars to attend!
- Thursday, Jan. 14: “A Conversation with Alix Felsing“: We will start the new year with a program about re-starting careers. Alix, a former editor for the Charlotte Observer, is now working as a consultant in communications and talent development, and has some interesting thoughts on building “career resilience” and how to respond to career “derailment.” Make plans to hear Alix talk about a topic that’s of high interest in these days of cutbacks in the profession. 6:30 p.m. at Leroy Fox Restaurant.
- Thursday, Feb. 11: “A Conversation with Tommy Tomlinson”: We’ll hear from Alix’s other half at our February meeting. Tommy, a former Observer columnist and reporter, last spoke with us in August 2014. In that time his career has taken some interesting turns, with some good sports journalism that resulted in his profile of former North Carolina basketball coach Dean Smith being included in the 2015 edition of “Best American Sports Writing.” — his second appearance in that series. He will talk about what he’s been up to lately and share his always insightful advice on writing and interviewing. 6:30 p.m. at a location to be determined.
I hope to see you at both of these events. Please get in touch if you have questions
