Hello, SPJ colleagues:
Mark your calendars and make plans to attend the fall programming of your SPJ chapter. Here’s what’s coming up. All meetings are at 6:30 p.m. on the second Thursday of each month at Leroy Fox Restaurant, 705 S. Sharon Amity Road, Charlotte.
(1) Our next meeting is Thursday, Sept. 8 and we will have “A Conversation with David Boraks.” David makes a return visit to our chapter to talk about his most recent work with WFAE-FM and will also give us some insight on reporting climate change and other topics related to science and technology journalism. David was the founder and publisher of DavidsonNews.Net and he will also talk about his decision last year to close the site and what he learned from his experience with an online only news outlet.
(2) October program is to be determined, though I’m working on several possibilities. Got a program idea? Let me know.
(3) Our Nov. 10 program will feature one of our founding members, Charlotte-area investigative reporter Stuart Watson. Stuart will discuss his latest project, a film in which he used his reporting skills to investigate his own family history.
October will also be the month for chapter elections. Current officers are Keith Cannon, president; and Corey Inscoe, treasurer. The positions of vice president and secretary are vacant due to members holding those offices moving out of the area.
If you have interest in running for any chapter officer position, please let me know.
I look forward to seeing you at a meeting this fall.
-Keith Cannon, President
