The next meeting of your Charlotte Pro chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists will be at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 13 at Leroy Fox Restaurant, 705 S. Sharon Amity Road.
Our program will be “A Conversation about the Charlotte Protests” and we’ll talk with three Charlotte-area journalists who have spent significant time covering this story in recent weeks. Our tentative panel will include David Sentendrey, a digital journalist with Fox 46 TV, Katie Peralta of The Charlotte Observer, and Ryan Pitkin of Creative Loafing. Ryan is a chapter member and was a finalist in the professional division of the chapter’s 2015 Outstanding Journalism Awards.
If you enjoy a “how I got the story” discussion, you’ll want to be here as these journalists describe their coverage of these events which brought worldwide attention to Charlotte.
Other notes on upcoming chapter events:
— We are currently in the annual election period for the chapter. Current officers are Keith Cannon, president and Corey Inscoe, treasurer. The offices of vice president and secretary are vacant. If you would like to be a candidate for any of these offices, contact me by Friday, Oct.14 and we’ll discuss how to proceed.
— The Nov. 10 meeting will be “A Conversation with Stuart Watson.” Watson, a veteran Charlotte-area investigative reporter and a founding member of the chapter, will discuss his latest project. His documentary film “Helen” chronicles his search for his biological parents using the techniques of investigative reporting. It’s at 6:30 p.m. at Leroy Fox Restaurant.
