The Greater Charlotte chapter of SPJ meets on the second Thursday of every month at 6:30 p.m. at Leroy Fox restaurant, 705 South Sharon Amity Road in Charlotte. You’ll find up-to-date information on our monthly programs on this website or by following us on Twitter. Guests are always welcome.
We hold question-and-answer sessions with important local journalists at each of our monthly gatherings; past sessions have featured former Charlotte Observer columnist Tommy Tomlinson, NBC Charlotte investigative reporter Stuart Watson and chief photographer Dan Robbins, Charlotte Observer writers Kathleen Purvis, Tom Sorensen and Helen Schwab and features editor Mike Weinstein, Fox 46 Carolinas vice president of content Geoff Roth, NC Open Government Coalition director Jonathan Jones and media attorney Jon Buchan. The chapter also has hosted sessions on topics freelancing and social media ethics and reporting. In 2012, the chapter hosted a day-long workshop to prepare journalists for covering the Democratic National Convention held in Charlotte that September.
We plan to continue strong advocacy for journalists locally.
